Technical discussion on good bricks along with Howrah brick kiln association and 60 Brick kiln owners
Can brick production become more efficient, less dependent on fossil fuels and better suited to a changing climate? These questions took centre stage at a workshop on Good Bricks, organised by TARA in Howrah on 26 August, bringing together around 60 stakeholders (Brick kiln owner) from across West Bengal’s brick sector. The workshop explored the potential of non-fired brick technology across the value chain, from manufacturing and construction applications to emerging economic opportunities and the potential for generating carbon credits. The discussions highlighted how technological alternatives could help the brick industry respond to some of its most pressing challenges while creating opportunities for a more sustainable production model.
A key focus of the workshop was the hydraulic pressed non fired Bricks technology, which eliminates the need for conventional kiln firing. Unlike traditional brickmaking, the technology can enable production throughout the year, reducing the sector’s dependence on seasonal kiln operations and helping address disruptions caused by weather and other constraints.
A key outcome of the engagement was the strengthening of the collaboration between TARA and InnoCSR. The partnership aims to combine TARA's field presence and market development capabilities with InnoCSR 's technology support.
The collaboration will focus on moving beyond awareness, demonstrations and towards actual market adoption, enterprise development, and wider replication of Good Brick technology.
The event marked more than a successful technology presentation, it represented a step towards building a market-driven ecosystem for sustainable non fired brick production. With strong stakeholder interest, technical collaboration, business support, and joint market promotion, the business support, and joint market promotion, the Good Brick initiative has the potential to create a scalable model for transforming brick production.
