Chandravan Mini Solar Water Visit

24 Sep 2026 to 26 Sep 2026 10:50 AM - 02:00 PM TARAgram Orchha, Churara, Chandravan, Ladpura Khas and Mathurapura in Niwari, Madhya Pradesh

Technology & Action for Rural Advancement (TARA), sister concern of Development Alternatives Group, in collaboration with GuruJal and Abhipsa Foundation, conducted a three-day Rural Immersion Programme on Community-Led Water Governance from 24-26 August 2026 in Niwari, Madhya Pradesh. The programme was designed to provide first-hand exposure to community-led approaches to water security, bringing together learning on water accessibility, source sustainability, water quality, local planning and governance.

Across Churara, Chandravan, Ladpura Khas and Mathurapura in Niwari district, participants engaged with communities and observed practical interventions, including community-owned mini solar water supply systems, community-based water quality monitoring, source sustainability measures, water conservation and recharge structures. The immersion also included participation in a PRI workshop, stakeholder interactions, Village Action Planning (VAP), Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) integration, and exposure to the District Water Coalition.

A key learning from the field was that sustainable water and WASH systems require more than physical infrastructure. Community participation, local ownership, institutional coordination, capacity building and effective governance are critical for long-term functionality. The programme also highlighted how participatory planning can connect community priorities with government schemes, formal planning and resource mobilisation.

The group reflection reinforced the value of context-specific, convergent and community-led approaches. Participants connected technical water interventions with the social, institutional and livelihood dimensions of water security, gaining practical insights that can inform future work and replication of sustainable water and WASH models.
