Through the Community Resource Management programme, Development Alternatives, under the Nirmal Haridwar Project as supported by Tata Trusts, successfully hosted an engaging Solid Waste Management Awareness Session at P.M Shri Govt. Girls Inter College on 17 July 2026. The orientation served as a dynamic platform to cultivate environmental stewardship and promote source segregation practices among youth.

Designed to embed sustainable habits within the local educational framework, the session introduced 177 female students alongside school faculty to the core tenets of waste segregation and the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). The initiative combined conceptual learning with active participation, featuring an interactive trivia round that tested the students' environmental knowledge while fostering open dialogue around waste sorting challenges.

To bridge the gap between theory and practical application, participants took part in a hands-on Waste Segregation Challenge. Working collaboratively in groups, the students mapped out distinct waste types on analytical charts and demonstrated real-time sorting techniques using designated, colour-coded collection bins.

The event concluded with an open feedback exchange, a vote of thanks, and a collective cleanliness pledge. By equipping young students with actionable waste management strategies, the initiative highlighted Development Alternatives’ commitment to foster long-term behavioural change, empowering youth to become active environmental ambassadors across their schools, households, and local communities.
