Development Alternatives, in partnership with Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) under Community Resource Management program, successfully organised a vibrant Community Celebration Event on 30 June 2026 in Bangaon, Chhindwara. The event served as a community platform that harnessed the power of local partnerships to promote sustainable waste management, resource recovery, and inclusive community leadership.

As part of the ongoing Waste Management Project across Gram Panchayats Sarna and Bangaon, the initiative demonstrated how decentralised circular models can foster dialogue on pressing rural sanitation challenges while strengthening community ownership. Through interactive showcases, including the distribution of organic compost derived from segregated household waste to local farmers, the initiative conveyed messages of environmental stewardship, source segregation, and collective responsibility, transforming daily waste-handling habits into a powerful tool for behaviour change and public engagement.

The event attracted over 150 participants from across the region, bringing together panchayat leaders, school students, sanitation workers, local farmers, and community members. Distinguished guests included block and district coordinators from the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), Zila Panchayat representatives, and local Sarpanches, reflecting strong institutional support for community-led communication and sanitation initiatives.

The Bangaon celebration highlighted Development Alternatives’ capacity to drive grassroots transformation by proving that culturally grounded community events can successfully elevate local perspectives, motivate shared responsibility, and advance the broader goals of enduring and equitable rural progress.
