Release of the Cement Sector Decarbonisation Roadmap at Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi

21 Jan 2026 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC), 15, Janpath Road, New Delhi

TARA Applied Research Centre (TARC) participated in the national dialogue on cement sector decarbonisation organised by NITI Aayog, marking the release of the Roadmap for Cement Sector Decarbonisation. The event marked an important step in shaping India’s approach to reducing emissions from one of its most critical industrial sectors. .

The dialogue brought together policymakers, industry representatives, and research organisations to discuss practical and scalable solutions for cement decarbonisation. The roadmap places strong emphasis on clinker reduction, alternative binders, and solutions that can be implemented within existing cement plants. It also highlights the importance of near-term actions alongside longer-term technologies. .

TARC’s participation reflects its long-standing work in this area. For over a decade, TARC has been working on Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3), a low-carbon cement technology focused on reducing clinker content while maintaining performance and scalability. A review of the cement roadmap shows strong alignment with TARC’s LC3 objectives, particularly in recognising clinker substitution as a key decarbonisation lever. .

Engagement in this dialogue provided useful insights into emerging policy directions and reinforced the value of collaboration between policy, industry, and applied research.
