Development Alternatives Group, with its partners, launched “Shramdaan Karyakram” under the theme Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan on 13th May 2025. Inaugurated by honourable Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Mohan Yadav, Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan aims to restore traditional water sources and promote water conservation across 25 villages in Niwari district, Madhya Pradesh. The ongoing initiative will continue through 17th May, mobilising communities to take charge of their water resources.
As part of the campaign, large-scale cleanliness drives have been conducted at key public water bodies, including the Naina River in Namapura, and water sites in Kathaupahadi and Dabarkhas Shivrampur. A major highlight was the rejuvenation of a 30-year-old community well, cleaned through shramdaan (voluntary labour) by local residents. Over 500 community members have actively participated in the drives so far.
Awareness sessions have been held to educate the public on hygiene and water-saving practices. These sessions sparked meaningful conversations around sustainable methods such as soak pits, ponds, check dams, and stop dams.
Speaking at one of the gatherings, Mr. Navniit Siingh, Regional Director, Development Alternatives, emphasised, “Water sources are our shared heritage—reviving them is not just an environmental act, but a cultural responsibility.”
The initiative has also witnessed enthusiastic participation from Gram Panchayat representatives, Sarpanches, and villagers, showcasing the strength of community-led efforts in tackling water stress.
This campaign is not just about cleaning water bodies—it’s about igniting a movement where citizens become custodians of their natural resources.
