UdyaME Camps are an important platform for connecting rural women’s entrepreneurial aspirations with opportunities for enterprise development and financial inclusion. Recent field visits to UdyaME Camps in Manda, Deegh block and Barkacha, Mirzapur, highlighted women’s growing interest in establishing new businesses and expanding existing enterprises. The interactions offered insights into their business aspirations, demand for credit and the support required to translate entrepreneurial intent into viable economic activity.

Across the camps, women expressed considerable interest in accessing loans to initiate or expand their enterprises. The camps provided an opportunity to engage with prospective entrepreneurs, understand their financial requirements and support their initial steps towards business formalisation. In Deegh, participants engaged in loan applications and business-plan preparation. These activities helped women take practical steps towards setting up an enterprise.

The discussions highlighted the range of opportunities women are interested in pursuing, alongside the importance of identifying suitable and economically viable business models. Women’s entrepreneurial interests reflected the potential for diverse livelihood activities, while also pointing to the need for accessible information on product selection, investment requirements, technical skills and market demand. Facilitating informed business decisions is essential to ensuring that enterprise development is responsive to local opportunities and women’s individual circumstances.

The camps also highlighted that access to credit, although important, is only one component of enterprise development. Women may require continued assistance with loan documentation, application procedures, financial-institution linkages and follow-up. Sustained handholding can help bridge the gap between expressing an interest in entrepreneurship and establishing an operational business. The field observations further emphasised the importance of making enterprise support accessible to women who face constraints on mobility and participation outside their homes. Localised guidance and appropriate follow-up can help improve their access to business information and support services.

The UdyaME Camps reaffirmed the importance of creating accessible pathways for rural women to pursue entrepreneurship. By connecting women’s aspirations with credit facilitation, business planning and continued enterprise support, the camps can contribute to strengthening livelihood opportunities and enabling women to participate more actively in local economic development.
