Seminar on Eco Friendly Brick Solutions underway at DA Headquarters in Delhi

10 Sep 2025 02:40 PM to 04:30 PM New Delhi

On 10 September 2025, TARA (Technology and Action for Rural Advancement), sister organisation of the Development Alternatives Group, hosted a seminar on Eco-friendly Brick Solutions: Good Bricks at the Development Alternatives headquarters in New Delhi. The event was organised in collaboration with InnoCSR Co. Ltd. (South Korea), Korea Energy Agency, and Reserve Carbon, bringing together diverse stakeholders to deliberate on scalable solutions for sustainable construction.

The seminar highlighted the Good Bricks System (GBS), a non-fired, low-carbon brick technology introduced by Sam Yoonsuk Lee, CEO of InnoCSR. Emphasising its climate benefits, Lee noted that each Good Brick produced prevents nearly 550 grams of CO₂ emissions compared to conventional fired bricks. This innovation presents a viable alternative to traditional brick kilns, which are among the largest contributors to carbon emissions in the construction sector.

Shrashtant Patara, CEO of Development Alternatives, reflected on DA’s four-decade journey of pioneering sustainable technologies in construction. He underlined the importance of global partnerships in driving systemic change, particularly in reducing the sector’s carbon footprint while promoting inclusive growth.

The seminar drew active participation from enterprises, academia, and civil society organisations, including Mahila Housing Trust, Varaha ClimateAg, Xynteo, and Greentech Knowledge Solutions. Discussions centred on adoption pathways, market readiness, and collaborative models to accelerate deployment of low-carbon technologies in India.

As the nation works towards its 2070 net zero target, the seminar reaffirmed that innovative, eco-friendly construction technologies like GBS are crucial to balancing sustainability and growth. Platforms such as this pave the way for collaborative climate action in the built environment.
