The Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM) has launched the Suksham Udhyam Sakhi initiative to strengthen grassroots enterprise support. Over 13,000 women will be trained as “Micro Udyam Sakhis” to support nearly 6.5 lakh rural women in starting and scaling their own micro-enterprises. Development Alternatives is providing technical support to enable training, business planning, and ecosystem linkages at the community level.

Under the leadership of the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM), 13,064 Micro-Enterprise Sakhis will be trained across the state. These women will play a critical role in supporting 6.5 lakh rural women in starting and growing their own micro-enterprises.
The initiative is being implemented through Cluster Level Federations (CLFs), where four women in each federation will be designated as Micro-Enterprise Sakhis. Each Sakhi will mentor and provide technical support to at least 50 women entrepreneurs, helping them access training, financial services, and market linkages.
Development Alternatives is supporting UPSRLM by providing technical assistance for enterprise promotion, training modules, and facilitation tools. The effort focuses on strengthening women-led local institutions like SHGs and CLFs to drive entrepreneurship from within communities.
This initiative signals a strong shift in how enterprise support is being institutionalised at the community level - with women not just participating, but leading efforts to unlock economic opportunity across rural Uttar Pradesh. Through the Suksham Udhyam Sakhi model, women are becoming enablers of change in their own right, helping lay the foundation for more inclusive and resilient local economies.
