Job description

    Job Description:

    Name of Organisation

TARAjeevan (Production, Quality and Product Support)

    Position Title

    Technical Officer

    Location

    TARAjeevan, Ghitorni, New Delhi

    No. of Positions

    01

    Job Type

    Contractual

    Executive Summary

Provide technical leadership for TARAjeevan's production and quality function. Own reagent chemistry, kit quality, laboratory standards and inventory, so that every kit leaving Ghitorni performs as specified and production continuity is built on documented processes and trained staff.

Consolidate and maintain the product's technical knowledge base, and support the GM (Sales and Business Development) on certification, cost reduction and product development.

    Role mandate

The role holder will be responsible for the technical integrity of the TARAjeevan product line, covering reagent preparation and standardisation, final testing of kits, calibration of instruments, batch records, inventory of chemicals and consumables, and the training and supervision of production staff. The role holder will also provide hands-on support for the water purification and filter line, including assembly, servicing and field troubleshooting, and will act as the technical counterpart to the GM on certification, supplier evaluation, cost reduction and the digitization pathway. The role sits within a social-enterprise group with a strong development mandate; the role holder is expected to work collaboratively with production staff and long-serving colleagues, and to build the team's capability rather than operate as a lone specialist. Success is measured by kit quality and consistency, zero stock-outs of critical reagents, documented processes, and the resilience of the production function.

    Core accountabilities

    1. Reagent preparation, testing and quality assurance
      1. Prepare and standardise reagents for all kit parameters, including pH, TDS, hardness, chlorine, arsenic, fluoride and bacteriological tests, in accordance with APHA, BIS and WHO methods.
      2. Carry out final testing of every production batch against reference standards before release, and maintain reference samples.
      3. Operate and periodically calibrate laboratory equipment, maintaining calibration records.
      4. Investigate customer feedback on kit performance, trace root cause to batch and reagent, and institute corrective action.

    KPIs

    • 100% of batches tested and released against a written release protocol within the first 60 days.
    • Calibration schedule in place and adhered to for all instruments.
    • Customer feedback on kit performance investigated and closed within 7 working days, with a root-cause record.
    • Zero batches recalled for reagent failure.
    1. Production supervision and continuity
      1. Supervise and train production staff in kit assembly, packaging, labelling and reagent handling to a written standard.
      2. Document all production processes, formulations, sources and methods so that every step is covered by a written procedure.
      3. Ensure cross-training such that assembly and dispatch continue uninterrupted in the absence of any individual, including the role holder.

    KPIs

    • Written standard operating procedures for all production and reagent steps within 90 days.
    • At least 2 persons trained and able to perform every critical production step by end of the first 2 quarters.
    • No confirmed order delayed for want of technical sign-off.
    1. Technical documentation
      1. Systematically capture formulations, vendor specifications, process know-how and historical quality data from past and present contributors, from the organisation's technical advisers, and from existing records and systems.
      2. Build and maintain a technical master file covering chemistry, BOM specifications, supplier details and test methods.

    KPIs

    • Technical master file complete and reviewed by the technical adviser within the first quarter.
    • All historical technical records retrieved and indexed within 60 days.
    1. Inventory and supplier technical management
      1. Maintain inventory of reagents, chemicals, filter media, glassware and packaging, with reorder levels set to cover large orders, particularly for arsenic reagents and other long-lead items.
      2. Specify chemical grades and quality requirements for suppliers, evaluate alternative vendors and incoming material quality, and support the GM in supplier negotiations and the BOM review.

    KPIs

    • Zero stock-outs of critical reagents after the first 60 days.
    • Incoming material quality checks recorded for every delivery.
    • At least 2 alternative vendors qualified for each critical chemical within Year 1.
    1. Purification and filter line support
      1. Assemble, test and service water filter and arsenic removal units, including cartridge replacement.
      2. Undertake field visits for installation, customer training and troubleshooting as required.
      3. Support the technical assessment of purification products under development and the work needed to bring them to market.

    KPIs

    • Service and field-visit log maintained for all units.
    • Technical assessment of purification products documented within the first 2 quarters.
    1. Certification, safety and workspace
      1. Support the GM in maintaining NABL and any further certification, keeping the records and laboratory conditions required for compliance.
      2. Maintain the laboratory and production areas to safety, hygiene and chemical-handling standards, including safe storage and disposal of hazardous reagents.
      3. Keep batch records, service logs and data entries current in spreadsheets or logbooks.

    KPIs

    • Laboratory in audit-ready condition at all times, with a monthly self-inspection record.
    • Chemical storage and disposal register in place within 30 days.
    • No safety incidents.

    Candidate expectations:

    • BSc in chemistry or allied science, polytechnic diploma, or vocational training certificate
    • Experience: 1 to 2 years' experience in a laboratory, quality control or assembly setting preferred.
    • Comfortable with basic laboratory tools, digital scales, pipettes and graduated glassware
    • able to follow formulations, measurement guides and colour-matching charts with precision.
    • Basic computer skills for data entry and inventory management.
    • Physically able to stand for extended periods.
    • A quick learner with high accuracy on repetitive tasks, strong hygiene awareness, clear communication, a collaborative disposition and willingness to travel for field work.
