Truck Cabin Sanitisation and Dry Ration Distribution activities Under Suhana Safar Programme

Development Alternatives has been designing and providing solutions for women in the areas of Literacy, Energy, Water, Habitat, Skill Development, Waste to Wealth Creation and Enterprise Development. Through Innovative programmes and action research, we are enhancing the agency of women and advancing gender equality in India and the Global South.
TARA Akshar+ (an adult literacy programme) is a passport to a fulfilling life for women in India. Through functional literacy, they have a real opportunity to transform their lives and enrich the lives of people around them. The programme has enabled 230,000 women in India in the last decade, making them aware citizens, contributing to society as a strong 'social capital' and leading to overall community development.
While the lockdown amid COVID-19 pandemic hindered the learning and training of students. It also provided an opportunity to accelerate the digital learning process. The same is reflected in the work done by Development Alternatives. During the lockdown DA took up the mantle to connect learning and jobs with Digital platforms through various initiatives. This newsletter highlights our initiatives undertaken.
We are probably looking at the situation from the wrong end of the telescope. Instead of focusing on problems and challenges in the path of women's empowerment, what if we instead focused on unleashing energies that enable them to be enterprising, asks Kanika Verma. We need a new empowerment story for women; the one that is created and narrated by them.
Bhagwani Devi is one of the first women to drive an e-rickshaw in Gopalpur village, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. A proud e-rickshaw entrepreneur, Bhagwani shares that she finds joy in providing affordable transport for school going girls and putting a smile on people's face through her service. As a seasoned resident of her town, her e-rickshaw also offers guided tours of Mirzapur to pilgrims and devotees.
