Chiknayakanhalli Integrated Mission for Sustainable Development

A Report by Development Alternatives

We are pleased to inform you that we have just published a book, titled "Integrated Mission for Sustainable Development", in collaboration with Regional Remote Sensing Service Centre, ISRO, Bangalore. This is our 24th publication, in addition to 350 Research Reports. Our 23rd publication, titled "DAINET NGO Directory, in 15 Volumes, which we have published 8 months back, is well received by Organisations and individuals. About 70% of copies of this publication are already sold out. Majority of the buyers informed us that this is proved.

To mention briefly about our new publication, "Integrated Mission for Sustainable Development (IMSD)" is a novel approach towards enriching the development planning process in the country, using satellite remote-sensing data and the geographic information systems.

Pilot studies of IMSD were taken up by Department of Space in four districts to establish the methodology, in 1987. The integrated study was initiated in 21 districts (from 13 states), jointly with the State Governments in 1990. The methodology and early results were reviewed by the Planning Commission in 1992 and recommended to extend to other districts. The Prime Minister of India has reviewed IMSD in 1994.

The present publication is a report in two parts. Part one is the Situation Analysis of Chiknayakanhalli Taluk, Tumkur District, Karnataka State. Part two spells out the various components of the Action Plan.

We hope that our new publication will be useful to those who are involved in planning and sustainable development of our country, to learn the methodology based on advanced technologies, such as utilizing satellite remote-sensing data.
