Dubai International Award – 2000 for Best Practices (DIABP) Call for submission of Best Practices The Dubai Municipality in collaboration with United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (UNCHS), Nairobi has announced the third cycle for the Dubai International Award – 2000 for ten Best Practices (DIABP), to be selected globally, to encourage, recognise and enhance awareness of outstanding and sustainable achievements in improving the quality of life in human settlements. The Ministry of Urban Affairs and Employment, Government of India, has designated the Human Settlement Management Institute (HSMI), the Research and Training Wing of Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) as the National Level Nodal Agency for Best Practice documentation as well as for submission of Best Practice entries for the Awards of Excellence instituted by the Dubai Municipality, in association with UNCHS. Eligibility The Award is open to all organisations and individuals from Governments, local authorities, international and non-governmental and community-based organisations, the private sector and other representatives of civil society. Award The Dubai International Award will be presented to ten outstanding initiatives on the occasion of the World Habitat Day in the year 2000. Each award will consist of a cash prize of US $ 30,000, a trophy and a certificate in addition, Dubai Municipality will cover the travel and accommodation costs for upto two representatives of each award-winning best practice. Submission Category The submission of Best Practices will be accepted from Shelter and urban infrastructure; Sustainable human settlement development; Mainstreaming gender and combating social exclusion; Improved consumption/production cycles; Urban poverty reduction and job creation; Safe water supply and sanitation; Improved urban environment and health; Natural and human-made disasters; Responsiveness to the ideas and needs of youth; waste collection, recycling and reuse; Accessible public transport and communication; Crime prevention and social justice; Efficient, accountable and transparent governance; Use of information in decision-making; Architecture and urban design; Addressing the needs of older persons; and Experimental and innovative practices.
