TARA technologies

The Society for Technology & Action for Rural Advancement (TARA), a sister concern of Development Alternatives, is a not-for-profit non-government organisation. It is dedicated to the production and diffusion of low-cost, labour intensive, income generating and environmentally sound technologies for the benefit of economically weaker sections of society.

How to weave magic in cotton (not to mention silk, polyester, wool, and jute)

The TARA Handloom. Versatility is just one of its virtues.

High productivity
A weaver can produce at least 50% more on the TARA loom compared to conventional handlooms.

Adaptability
Single/multi-shuttle, multi-pedal, jacquard or dobby-you name it.

Ease of use
The design of the TARA loom is remarkably simple. Using it is even simpler, and far less tiring for the weaver.

Quality of fabric
Don't take our word for it. Ask OXFAM, who placed a sample order for fabric/items made on the TARA loom. ‘High quality’ would be putting it mildly.

Add to it its flexibility in sizes (40" to 72"). Its cost (Rs. 8000/-) . And the after-sale backup offered by TARA.
