TARAgyan: The Education Division
of TARAhaat
TARAgyan,
the education division of TARAhaat, develops educational courses
for people in rural and peri-urban areas. The courses are deployed
through TARAhaat’s cyber kiosks, known as TARAhaat
centres. India is booming in all sectors and the Information Technology
sector is the frontrunner amongst all the sectors in India. This
industry has put our nation on the global map. India has a huge untapped
talent in rural areas. There is a need to sharpen the skills of this
huge talent pool by building their skills and bring them up to the
market standard. The way to achieve that dream is to create a talent
pool of bright young minds who will power the engines of growth of the
global economy. In order to empower the rural youth, there is a huge
demand to design and develop IT-based soft skill courses that can help
the rural manpower to build their skills. TARAgyan has taken up this
challenge and has put immense effort into creating courses required to
empower the youth. TARAgyan has developed these courses keeping the
rural and peri-urban area perspective in mind as these are the places
where most of the population of India lives. TARAgyan provides selective
courses in Hindi and Punjabi. The intention is to add new courses every
year, further adding milestones to help in the growth of the nation.
TARAgyan is committed to making courses that will enable job placement
for the learners. This will lead to the learners acquiring knowledge,
getting a certificate and finally a job.
TARAgyan started developing
such courses keeping in mind three distinct and well-defined
streams.
The first is basic skills, which is designed for people who wish to
become familiar with the computer and to use its applications in their
day-to-day personal as well as professional lives. The second stream is
for life skill courses, intended to inspire students to master skills
that give them confidence and a winning edge in life. Practical English
Learning Programme and Personality Development are a few of the courses
that are available under this stream. The third stream is the job skills
category. This stream builds up vocational skills and aids students in
developing foundation skills that are required for a job. In the last
couple of years, TARAgyan has laid more stress on job-oriented courses.
A few of the such courses that TARAgyan has launched in the last couple
of years include Desktop Publishing, Computer Teacher Training, Call
Centre Training, Diploma in Financial Accounting, Diploma in Computer
Application, etc.
The latter-most two courses
have been recently deployed by TARAgyan. TARAhaat’s Diploma in
Computer Application course is designed to equip students with a working
knowledge of computers. It also enables students to develop proficiency
in using desktop publishing software to create a variety of printed and
electronic publications. This course also lays emphasis on installation
of various s and maintenance of computers, whereas the Diploma in
Financial Accounting is designed to help people without an accounting
background to easily understand accounting concepts. It starts with
basic accounting terms and goes on to explain bank reconciliation, trial
balance and final accounts. Apart from this, it also helps students
learn the world’s first multi-lingual Business Accounting and Inventory
software-Tally 9. Tally 9 is an advanced software having the capability
to work with almost all the Indian languages concurrently. This course
also teaches students the basics of spreadsheet concepts, including
creating worksheets, editing data, and building charts and graphs.
In addition to course
development, TARAgyan has laid a lot of emphasis on instructor skill up
gradation and certification. In order to provide quality education,
TARAgyan not only develops courses but also imparts training to
instructors. Delivering domain knowledge ensures that each instructor
must be certified to deliver the course so as to ensure quality of
delivery.
TARAgyan has deployed
representatives (TARAgyan Coordinators) in its territory offices to
ensure the quality of delivery of its courses. These Coordinators visit
the TARAhaat centres regularly to ensure that the policies made
by TARAgyan are followed at the grassroots level. These coordinators
conduct instructor tests and take mock sessions of the instructors. They
also guide the TARAhaat centres’ instructors to make lesson plans
for course delivery. They send the reports to the head office on a
weekly, fortnightly and monthly basis.
TARAgyan monitors and analyses
the reports received by the territory offices. Based on the analyses,
the TGCs are instructed to take the necessary steps as and when
required. TARAgyan conducts surveys to identify the requirement of new
courses in the field by keeping the competitors’ strategies in mind.
Once the courses have been identified, they are developed by the
TARAgyan team in-house or, in some cases, they also outsourced. TARAgyan
also develops the support material for floating these courses vis-à-vis
instructor guides, course structures, question papers and instructor
training material.
TARAgyan is ascertaining the
viability of new collaborations, by working on numerous fronts for
placement tie-ups in order to strengthen its placement cell. The
intention here is to identify and place the talent pool of bright young
minds studying at the TARAhaat centres and get them good jobs.
Various tie ups are in the pipeline, which have high potential for
placement of students who are studying in TARAhaat courses.
