to the mandate given to IGNOU by the Government of India to train five
lakh students every year in various skills. The Community College is an
alternative system of education, which aims at the empowerment of the
disadvantaged and the underprivileged (urban poor, rural poor, tribal
poor and women) through appropriate skill development, leading to jobs.
The TARA Livelihood Academy (TLA)
aims to train 1000 persons through this community college in the next
two years (2009-2011). TLA is a commitment of Development Alternatives
towards extending the reach of capacity building services to millions of
underprivileged people, particularly women and youth.
