    The PACS Programme now in its sixth year of the seven year programme (2001-2008), has taken giant leaps in its efforts    to empower millions of poor people living in many of India’s most backward districts.

    The MEAL Core Group meeting- Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning System (MEAL) is a framework to strengthen the programme’s systems /mechanisms for ensuring delivery of better results and organisational growth. It provides an opportunity to further improve on ways of capturing, analyzing, reflecting upon and learning from these processes for strengthening them for overall improved effectiveness in terms of achieving development outcomes. The 9th MEAL Core Group meeting took place with the aim to discuss preparation of the third MEAL national synthesis report.

    The Peer Learning Workshops (PLW) held twice a year, provide a platform for exchange of experiences and learning among the partner organizations, through interaction, dissemination of information and dialogues on pertinent development concerns at the state level for the purpose of advocacy. The 7th Peer Learning Workshops (PLW) was held in two states -Jharkhand and Bihar on August 21-23,  and August 26-28,  respectively. The key issues  discussed were: NREGS, Rural Habitat Policy, Livelihoods, SHGs, mainstreaming disability and microfinance.

    TSG/ ISB successfully conducted a Planning workshop for its UNDP-TAHA CSO partners of Bihar in Patna on August 8 –    9. Another Planning workshop was conducted for its UNDP-TAHA CSO partners of Madhya Pradesh and                               Maharashtra in TARAgram, Orchha on August 13 -14.

Environment Systems Branch (ESB)

  · Workshops in Nepal,  August 21 – 26 were held at the Radisson Hotel, Kathmandu. Three meetings were held over the six days. The first was on  Sub-Regional Sustainable Development Strategy for South Asia -  to discuss with stakeholder countries and organisations, how to take the strategy forward.  The second  developed the plan for South Asian Environmental Outlook Report.  The third looked at the Environmental Knowledge Hub (eKH).

CLEAN-India website has been awarded the Manthan-AIF Award 2006 for best e content and creativity in the e-environment category on August 5, 2006 at the National Cooperative Union of India. The Manthan-AIF Award is a first initiative of its kind in India to recognize best practices in e-Content and Creativity. Emphasizing the importance of e-Content and Creativity for and by the grassroots people, the Manthan Award 2006 recognized and awarded 37 initiatives out of 250 nominations received for the following categories: e-Business; e-Entertainment; e-Culture; e-Learning; e-Health; e-Governance; e-Science e-Inclusion & Livelihood; e-Education; e-News; e-Localisation; e-Environment; and e-Youth. 

Technology and Action for Rural Advancement (TARA)

TARA Machines has initiated the supplies of TARA Balram to the different Projects of Border Road Organisation (BRO) and successfully completed the training programme of Compressed Earth Block Technology at Leh, Ladakh for the Indian Army.

TARA handmade paper has been approached for acid free paper and mount board by various other government institutes and museums to preserve manuscripts and paintings.

  · TARA VSBK Workshop was successfully completed at Dhamtiri and Jadalpur with the help of Chairman, KVIB.

Technology Systems Branch (TSB)

On August 10, 2006, 35 houses made for the Mador village near Orchha were handed over to the owners. The project was inaugurated by Mr. Ganeswar DEO of Tikamgarh District.

The houses are in three clusters, comprising the Ahirwal, Adivasi and Prajapati areas.

   

TARAhaat

  • TARAhaat

    n With the opening of new franchised TARAkendras in Jharkhand and Eastern UP, the total number of TARAkendras has now reached 114. TARAhaat also has 100 franchised TARAkendras.

    n TARAhaat is also all set to sign a new understanding with One World South Asia in British Telecom lifelines project. The project initially launched in November’04 has ended its term in Mar’06. The new launch of the system will happen in September.

    n The Entrepreneurship Development Support Services (EDSS) has been recognized by Uttar Pradesh Udhyog Mandal. The EDSS trainees will be able to get flexible and transparent legal solutions while opening up any enterprise.

    n   The EDSS programme has partnered SAMARPIT, a local Jhansi based NGO. They will help community mobilization for the EDSS programme.
