l The Climate Action Network – South Asia (CANSA) is organising an ‘Equity Summit’ on October 20-22, 2008 in Chennai to discuss a framework on equity in global climate negotiations. An approximate 150 participants from across the globe are expected

l IDRC has funded the project ‘Mitigating the Health risk of communities Around Stone Crushing Units’. A meeting was held to review the progress of the past 18 months as also to design the future course of action for policy interventions. A visit to the project site was also a part of the endeavour

l UNDP supported a learning workshop on ‘Waste to Energy Solutions and Private-Community Partnerships on September 23, 2008

  PACS Programme

l In the PACS Programme project, till date, 2047 village campaigns have been conducted in the six PACS Programme states and 305 village meetings in the three states of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Jharkhand in India

l The fortnightly newsletter highlighting the implementation of NREGA along with the case studies of the project has been published

l The apex level network meeting organised on September 30, 2008 was attended by representatives of nine external organisations who provided their inputs on NREGA

Energy Service Project

l Under the DST-supported Energy Service Project, the team has formed a Village Energy Committee who will own and operate gasifier-based energy service models. Technology outsourcing and operators’ training is under progress.

TARA Livelihood Academic (TLA)

l A training programme on ‘Carbon Revenues: A Source of Funding’ was held at TARAgram Orchha on September 18-20 and a customised training on ‘Organisation Development: Managing Change’ was organised for Caritas Bangladesh from September 20-22, 2008 at the Hope Centre, Savar, near Dhaka in Bangladesh

TARA

l Machines: TARA machines participated in Jharkhand’s biggest industrial fair CANVAS-08 (Jamshedpur). The Mechanised Balram was launched and displayed in the show. The response was positive and entrepreneurs in Jamshedpur are interested in setting up these machines. TARA-MCR machines are now being supplied to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka

l Paper: TARA handmade paper and the acid free paper are in great demand for mount boards. Buyers have placed orders for the supply of paper with watermarks for over 10 universities

TARAhaat

l Under the Lifeline India project, the total number of farmer queries generated has crossed 55,000

l The total number of literates through TARA Akshar is now 48,500
