Institutions Systems Branch (ISB)
 

  • · Under the Arghyam project, drinking water systems were initiated in eight villages, benefiting a population of 6,000.

    · Under the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) project, participatory and gender research processes were completed for two villages with active participation of diverse stakeholders.Health Assessment of 112 community members was completed as a part of health profiling of Bhojpura village, Madhya Pradesh.

    · Training programme on ‘Orientation to Occupational & Environmental Diseases’, in association with Sri Ram Chandra Medical College, Chennai was organized at TARAgram on September 11 - 12, 2007 for Government Physicians from Tikamgarh District, Madhya Pradesh and Jhansi District, Uttar Pradesh.

    Training Systems Group (TSG)

    · TSG conducted a 6-day customized capacity building programme (August 30 - September 4, 2007) for the business and community staffs of Rio Tinto in TARAgram, Orchha on :

    - Community Needs Assessment

    - Participatory Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation

    · TSG conducted its 2nd and 3rd International Training in TARAgram, Orchha on:

    - Participatory Livelihood Assessment Technique (PLAT): September 13-15, 2007.

    - Micro Enterprise Development (MED): September 28-30,2007

    Poorest Area Civil Society (PACS) Programme

    ·  A day-long national workshop was organised on September 29, 2007 at DA headquarters in New Delhi. The agenda was to inculcate the learnings from the on-going PACS programme, currently in its sixth year.

Environment Systems Branch (ESB)

 

·  The 5-year CLEAN-India programme under the European Union is nearing completion and in the last five year, CLEAN-India has been able to mobilise students as environment ambassadors catalising the importance of the environment in 78 town and cities accross India.

·  A day-long workshop in Electronic Waste Management was successfully organised by ESB at the India International Centre, New Delhi, on September 21, 2007.

Technology and Action for Rural Advancement (TARA)
 

·  EcoKiln: The Deputy Director KVIB, Madhya Pradesh, visited the Datia Service Centre to promote TARA EcoKilns. The VSBK sammelan (conference) will be held on October 18-25, 2007 at Datia Service Centre. Respective government departments and interested individuals have been invited for the same.

· Paper: TARA handmade products are now being exported to the United States and there has been widespread appreciation of the quality and design of the products. The demand for the same has increased in TARAgram, Orchha for TARA paper products due to the onset of tourist season. Daily cash sales have gone up noticeably.

· Machines: TARA Machines (AS-1818) were installed at Mis Hi-Tech Products, Ramgarh Jharkhand and mini cement companies surrounding Ramgarh have been approached to promote the machines, Ambuja Cement Foundation has shown interest to work with TARA Technologies, especially for the HIV affected in Ropar (Punjab). Ambuja Cement has also shown keen interest in the fly ash utilization by TARA machines

Technology Systems Branch (TSB)

        

·  Based on the marker feedback, the TARA mechanised BALRAM machine used for the production of compressed fly ash blocks has already been value engineered. TARA is going to launch the machine shortly.

 

·  Under the Rural Entrepreneurship Development Programme supported by NABARD, 14 rural entrepreneurs have been trained in production of cement-based building materials at TARAGram in September. Bank linkage is being facilitated by DA­Habitat for loans to be made available to the entrepreneurs to set up their enterprises. Once the loans are sanctioned and equipments purchased, there will be another level of training for the entrepreneur. On September 25, 2007, certificates were distributed where the potential bankers and entrepreneurs participated in large numbers. The next batch of entrepreneurs will be interviewed for the next batch of training to be conducted in the first week of October.

· The total number of TARA Akshar literates is now 14100.
