A workshop on ‘Indian Freshwater Turtle and Tortoises Conservation Priority Areas and Initiatives’ held on 23-24 October in Lucknow. Representatives from Development Alternatives make a presentation on ‘Linking Livelihood Concerns into Conservation Strategy’. The workshop organized by Indian Turtle Conservation Programme of Turtle Survival Alliance and Madras Crocodile Bank Trust.

l Development Alternatives makes a presentation on ‘Application on Science and Technology for Development of Bundelkhand’ in a workshop supported by Department of Science on 28 and 29 October.

l Development Alternatives participates in an International Climate Change Adaptation Forum, organized by UNEP on 20, 21 and 22 October.

l Development Alternatives participates in an International Conference on Geoinformatics Technologies for National Disaster Management organized by AIT and Geoinformatics International held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on 19 and 20 October.

l HP-CLAP project with the support of HP government is a step towards carbon neutral development and the geographical coverage in the state of HP covers all the 13 districtsduring this month.

l In 5 villages of Wadi taluk of the state of Karnataka, under the SCDP initiative, with livelihood promotion being the major objective, an entrepreneur has been motivated to set up 1 MCR and 1 Paver Unit with 100% leverage from the bank. The unit was inaugurated by the ACC Plant Director in the presence local political representatives of Wadi town.

l DA as a PIA selected by M.P Government under Integrated watershed Management Programme for 5527 hectare area in Datia District.

l National Fertilizer Limited Lucknow selects Development Alternatives for project planning purpose of the village Bamour District Jhansi

l Bundelkhand partners meeting held in Mahatma Gandhi Gramodaya University, Chitrakut under the auspices of Bundelkhand Knowledge Platform with the help of DST. 28 CSOs participates and discusses about project development and issues related with Bundelkhand based on science and technology issues.

These two years since the community radio – Radio Bundelkhand was set up have demonstrated the value of a dialogue platform owned by the community. The second anniversary of Radio Bundelkhand was celebrated on the 23rd of October 2010 with renewed commitment from community reporters and the staff.

l The MP government has launched a new housing scheme called the Madhya Pradesh Mukhyamantri Grameen Awaas Yojna. Under this scheme, The TARA Karigar Mandal (Masons guild nurtured by DA) has been recognised as a service provider. DA has been recognised as a consultant to the scheme. and DA participates in the MP govt Rural Housing Policy Workshop on the 19th and 20th of October 2010

l Exposure visit cum training held for Room to Read, Nepal

l HP LIFE project got sanctioned and two participants attended one week training at Banglore

TARAhaat
l
The TARA Akshar+ programme supported by MoHRD, Govt. of India under Saakshar Bharat Mission 2010 is all set to get roll out from 25th October at Dehradun. This will be first TARA Akshar centre in this region of India.

l TARAhaat has got into a new partnership with an organisation called Edlife Learning Pvt Ltd. This joint initiative will help in imparting training on Sales, Accounting and Basic Computer Skills to BPL youth in states with TARAhaat presence.
