Institutions Systems Branch (ISB)

  • Training Systems Group (TSG)

    · An international Training programme on ‘ A Livelihoods Approach for Prevention of Trafficking and Migration’ was organized at TARAgram, Orchha on August 7-9, 2007. Participants came from different parts of India, Bangladesh and Madagascar. The resource persons were Asha D’Souza (Consultant, ILO, Geneva), Dr. KK Mukherjee (GNK, Ghaziabad), Sudeshna Chatterjee (DA) and Santosh Pathak (DA).

    · A training programme was organized on ‘Gender and Development’ on August 21-25, 2007 for PACS programme partners from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Maharashtra, India.

    Social Action Group (SAG)

    · State Quality Monitoring of watershed projects in the districts of Katni, Saugor and Betul of Madhya Pradesh was undertaken in October 2007.

    · Piped water supply systems were installed in 6 villages from UP and MP, resulting in availability of clean drinking water to about 6000 people.

Environment Systems Branch (ESB)

 

·  On October 11-12, 2007 a CLEAN-India partners meet was organized at TARAgram Jhansi. Nearly 25 NGO partners participated in the meeting. As the CLEAN-India programme is a network of around 30 NGOs, the meeting provided a good platform for the partners to share their experiences and successes. The topic was the future strategy for the CLEAN-India programme, and it was unanimously felt that the programme provided a good platform for showcasing the work done in the field of environment, as also changing the mindset of future citizens.

Technology and Action for Rural Advancement (TARA)
 

·  EcoKiln: The VSBK Sammelan has taken place in TARA EcoKiln Service Centre at Datia, Madhya Pradesh, India on October 18-25, 2007. TARA had approached the Khadi and Vilage Industry Board in Madhya Pradesh to coordinate the distribution of the Community Development Carbon Fund to the TARA EcoKiln entrepreneurs of MP. A new model of TARA BrickMech semi-soft moulding machine has been successfully commissioned in Gujarat.

· Paper: TARA paper products are in great demand in TARAgram ,Orchha, as a result of an influx of tourists. The quality and designs made by the tribal women have been highly appreciated. TARA products were also displayed in Dillihaat and sales have gone up due to the good quality products.

· Machines: TARA Balram (Compressed Earth Block making machine) has been supplied to IIT, Kharagpur and ITDA (Integrated Tribal Development Agency), Andhra Pradesh. Training has been given in the IIT for the same. With the help of the Government of National Capital Territory, and Department of Environment, TARA had conducted a workshop in Ghitorni campus for utilization of Fly Ash in Delhi and National Capital Region for any government construction. A few departments did come forward to work on FlyAsh constructions, namely Public Works Department, Delhi Development Authority, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Corporation, Delhi Metro, Delhi Jal Board, etc.

Technology Systems Branch (TSB)

        

·  One hundred and fifty completed houses were handed over by the Lieutenant Governor of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Mukut Mithi on October 25, 2007 to the tsunami-hit people of Kuttucherymedu village, Tamil Nadu. The post-tsunami Reconstruction and Rehabilitation project was supported by Swiss Red Cross and Swiss Solidarity. The houses were ceremoniously handed over in a widely attended function.

 

·  Eight people received training for technical and entrepreneurial skills under the Rural Entrepreneur Development Programme held at Bhopal in a 15-day training module.

 

·    A brainstorming session on National Rural Housing and Habitat Programme was conducted in Guwahati on October 30, 2007. Its objective was to capture inputs from various stakeholders of the region.

TARAhaat

 

· The total number of TARAkendras has gone up to 329.

· The total number of students made literate from TARA Akshar programme stands at 17000.
