    · ToT(Training of trainers) on RLEP (Rural Livelihood Enhancement Programme) : TSG under UNDP TAHA (Tra

    fficking and HIV/AIDS ) Project called Building Livelihood Options for Trafficking Prone Communities is organising a 

    4 - day Training of Trainers for its 17 Partner NGOs at TARAgram, Nov 2-5 for 34 participants.  RLEP has been desi

    gned to give an orientation to the partner NGOs before the initiation of Livelihood Enterprises in the 21 districts of the

    3 states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra

    · Integrated Resource Centre (IRC) has been set up in Tanakpur, Uttaranchal under Anti Trafficking and Livelihood project

    of USAID. The 3 main activities undertaken are - converting traditional skills of zardozi into high end products, food pro

    cessing unit, and computer kiosks.

     

    PACS

    · Oct 14: The19th Project Selection Committee met at Qutab Hotel, New Delhi. Out of the 11 projects presented, 10 projects were approved for Amendment. One needs to be reworked and brought back to the next PSC which meets in January, 2007.

    · Oct 17,18: Orientation cum training programme on Right to Food at DA Conference Room, Delhi. The programme on  was facilitated by Dr NC Saxena, Harsh Mander, Biraj Patnaik and the team from Commissioner’s Secretariat on Right to Food, Supreme Court of India. The Commissioner’s Secretariat is conducting studies across the PACS states on Right to Food.

    · Oct 28:  A Rountable on Child Rights and Education is being organised on No 21,22 at Qutab Hotel, New Delhi. As a prelude, a brainstorming on the issue was organsied on October 28, at Development Alternatives, New Delhi. The idea was to work out a comprehensive agenda and strengthen the background note for discussions and deliberations during the proposed roundtable in Nov.

Environment Systems Branch (ESB)

   

CLEAN-India Delhi conducted workshops in schools to encourage open discussions on eco-friendly Diwali celebrations. Students were sensitized about air and noise pollutions and of the plight of the children deployed in making firecrackers. CLEAN-India identified potters willing to make unbaked, eco-friendly clay idols that dissolve easily on immersion, for schools. The results were phenomenal with around 1000 households taking to eco-friendly idols for puja this Diwali. CLEAN-India Delhi schools took out awareness rallies in Chanakyapuri.

Enzyme based waste management systems were set up in four schools as part of the GNCT-OWMS (Government of NCT Delhi-Organic Waste Management of Schools).

Development Alternatives is preparing an Interactive State of Environment (SoE) Atlas for India with support from Ministry of Environment and Forests. The Atlas will provide user friendly intranet and internet access to mapped environmental, social and natural resource information.

Technology and Action for Rural Advancement (TARA)
   

VSBK: A moulding machine has been sucessfully developed which will open a new market for adding fly ash with soil and clay for brick making.

Paper: TARA handmade paper had sponsored a training workshop at the National Museum on paper conservation.Mr. Harry (Professor of Conservation in Netherland) gave tips on how to preserve the manuscripts. Students from National Museum had visited Taragram, Orchha, for learning to make acid free paper.

Technology Systems Branch (TSB)

        

 

After successfully designing and implementing the electric motor run Charring & Briquetting (C&B) technology package, Development Alternatives has now developed a diesel engine powered C&B Technology.  After satisfactory lab testing, the package is under field trial in village Kaulawala, Nahan District, Himachal Pradesh. YUMDHA (a Nahan based NGO)  is supporting the rural community, producing briquettes using locally available  biomass and agriculture waste, to establish a market in the hilly region of H.P.

   

TARAhaat

The total number of TARAkendras is now 146.

TARAhaat is all set to roll out the product of a new partner SCOJO Foundation from the first week of November. Under the project TARAhaat is to sell SCOJO reading glasses. Training for the TARA marketing associates has already been completed. The product will be sold in the Bundelkhand region.
