Manthan Award for CLEAN-India

LEAN-India website has been awarded the Manthan-AIF Award 2006 for best e content and creativity in the e-environment category on August 5, 2006 at National Cooperative Union of India, New Delhi.

   Recognising the role played by CLEAN-India, the organizers highlighted the significance of the CLEAN-India website in spreading the message on environment protection to millions of students across the country. 

    The Manthan-AIF Award is a first initiative of its kind in India to recognize best practices in e-Content and Creativity. It was launched on October 10, 2004, by Digital Empowerment Foundation in partnership with World Summit Award and American India Foundation.  

Emphasizing the importance of e-Content and Creativity for and by the grassroots people, the Manthan Award 2006 recognized and awarded 37 initiatives out of 250 nominations received for the following categories:- 

e-Business; e-Entertainment; e-Culture; e-Learning; e-Health; e-Governance; e-Science; e-Inclusion & Livelihood; e-Education; e-News; e-Localisation; e-Environment, and e-Youth. The Award was initiated to create an information rich society where everyone, irrespective of caste, religion, race, region, gender and so on, is empowered to create, receive, share and utilize information and knowledge for their economic, social, cultural and political enhancement and development.

CLEAN-India at ICCE 2006, Putrajaya,Malaysia

  CLEAN-India had the privilege of being invited to participate in the International Children’s Conference on the Environment (ICCE) organized by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Putrajaya, Malaysia from  July 26 to July 31, 2006. The ICCE is inspired by the recognition that children need to be active participants in decisions that affect the future of the planet.

    Karthik Bharadhwaj, student of Innisfree House School, Bangalore participated in the meet as a student delegate. Romit Sen attended the conference as a Chaperon and  as CLEAN-India representative.

   Karthik Bharadhwaj gave a presentation on Rain Water Harvesting System initiated in his school as part of the programme. He was one of the 12 students selected to make a presentation at the conference amongst student delegates from 67 countries. 

    As part of the conference, they attended workshops and field trips. Romit Sen also attended the regional group meetings for Chaperones. q
