  • The Social Action Group field tested Water Management Training Modules in the Arghyam Project villages of Bundelkhand.

    The Training System Group visited Rio Tinto mines in Panna, Madhaya Pardesh; to start a dialogue process for Participatory Needs Assessment and Community training on Livelihood activities.

Environment Systems Branch (ESB)

 

CLEAN-India in association with Ministry of Enviroment & Forest celebrated Earth Day on April 22, on the banks of river Yamuna with activities involving more than 250 children from various schools of Delhi, including government and under priveledge schools. The programme included Naav Yatra, Shram Daan and a musical programme. The event provided a great opportunity to reinforce the commitment of the students towards saving mother earth.

CLEAN-Jhansi and CLEAN-Bangalore celebrated Earth Day with different events in their cities.

Technology and Action for Rural Advancement (TARA)

   

TARA Eco Kiln launched World Bank (CDCF) Community Development Carbon Fund Programme in Raipur with the support of Khadi Village Industries Board on April 12. Sri. Brijmohan Aggarwal , Minister of Forest and Commerce inagurated the programme. A TARA Eco Kiln Technology seminar was held in Jaipur on April 26. It was organized by SISI (Small Industry Service Institute) for the promotion of CLCS (Credit Link Capital Subsidy ) programme of Dept. of Small Scale Industry.

Mini Paper Recycling Unit (MPRU) orders received from Govt . of NCT, Dept of Environment for installation in schools and polytechnics. The detailed drawing has been given to all schools and polytechnics and the process is going on to install the MPRU’s. Market assessment done in Chanderpur (Maharashtra region) for fly ash bricks technology.

TARA Paper revised order received from NMM (National Mission for Manuscripts) for acid free paper and Mount Board paper. NMM has started distributing it all over the country and they have all found the products to be of very high quality. TARA handmade paper products were displayed in Dilli Haat in association with TRIFED to generate better sales.

An interesting breakthrough for basin-South Asia Regional Knowledge Platform (basin-SA) has been a vibrant dialogue that has been managed to create across India on the (proposed) first National Rural Housing and Habitat Policy with strong support and encouragement from the Ministry of Rural development. The progress so far is as under:

A framework for national rural habitat policy for India published as a book and Developed into a first draft of the "National Rural Housing and Habitat Policy 2006-a proposal to the Government of India."

Workshops organized across the country at the state, district and village level for receiving inputs. 12 consultations covering 17 States and1 Union Territory, 50 village level and 10 district level consultations have been conducted so far.

   

TARAhaat

The total number TARAkendras has now reached 248.

TARA Akshar centres in different states: Bihar-66, Jharkhand-47, and UP-67. TARA Akshar programme is expected to render literate around 50000 illiterates by the end of year 2007.
