The Centre for Learning
Resources
The expansion of reduction in
urban and rural areas in India has not been matched by a similar concern for
the quality for instruction and learning. This is one of the major reasons
for the high rates of dropout in our schools, and of functional illiteracy in
our nation.
The main objective of the Centre for Learning Resources (CLR) is to introduce
educational innovation and change at the basic classroom level and thus
improve the quality of education in our urban and rural schools and non-formal
programmes.
The CLR acts as a support organisation to voluntary agencies working at the
grassroots level, and to government and private schools. It works primarily
with teachers and other related personnel concerned with socially and
economically disadvantaged children at the pre-primary and elementary stages
of education, including non-formal education
The CLR’s main activities include :
1.
In
service training of teachers,
teacher-trainers and supervisory personnel.
2. Development of low-cost teaching learning materials in
various curricular areas, including audiovisual materials for environmental education
and language development.
The CLR has assisted municipal corporation schools, government tribal ashram
schools, government tribal ashram schools and single-teacher rural schools,
voluntary organisations running schools and NFE centres for rural, tribal and
working/pavement children.
