1.
In Arghyam project, the following milestones have been
achieved:

Village Development Committees has been formed in all the 8
project villages.

Boring for drinking water is going on in the 8 villages and
water has been found in 5 of the villages.
n
Village Action Plan has been formulated for the project.
2.
Gaushala will
start running as a livestock-based enterprise with the funds
that have been secured recently.

clippings is under construction and will be launched through
the DA ENVIS website in the

Development
Alternatives (DA), National Referral Centre for Lead Poisoning
in India (NRCLPI) and Occupational Knowledge International (OK
International) in collaboration with Quality Council of India
(QCI), Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), organised two regional
workshops, on 25 May 2007 in Delhi and on 30 May 2007 in
Bangalore, as part of large-scale awareness campaign to
promote environmentally sound manufacturing and collection of
lead batteries. The aim behind the workshops was to increase
the awareness on how to manage the lead battery supply chain
for environmental sustainability.
Report of the Study ‘Solid
Waste Management Plan for Upper Dharamshala Tibetan
Settlement, HP’ was submitted to the Tibetan Welfare
Office.
The first stakeholder meeting of the
UNDP-PPP Project held on 22-23 May 2007 in Namakkal, Tamil
Nadu was attended by representatives of the Municipality,
Poultry Associations, Panchayats and the general public. The
objective of the meeting was to develop the Public Private
Partnership Model in a waste-to-energy system. |

1. EcoKiln:
World Bank, Community Development Carbon Fund (CDCF) launched in
Orissa on 25 May 2007. Hon’ble Shri Biswal Bhushan Harichandan
offered a cheque of Rs. 60,000 to Mr. P. Semanchalan, Muniguda
for carbon saving of the period January – December 2005.This
endeavour was possible using only TARA EcoKilns with the support
of the Directorate of Industry in Orissa. Another 40 TARA
Ecokilns will be coming up in Orissa under REGP (Rural
Employment Generation Programme) scheme.
2. Machines: A
second lot of TARA Balram machines sent to UNICEF. NCT
Department of Environment had advertised in the newspapers to
recycle waste paper and save trees and referred to Development
Alternavives as the provider of Mini Paper Recycle Units. A
number of other NGOs Corporates, institutes, schools had
contacted us at DA to learn the procedure of waste paper
recycling technology. TARA has planned a workshop on paper
recycling on 12 June 2007 from 10.30 am onwards.
3. Paper: TARA paper has a rate
contract with TRIBES for all sizes of carry bags for the entire
year and has been successfully participating in fairs/
exhibitions. |

Ø
A waste paper recycling
plant was successfully installed at Heritage School, Dehradun.
Teachers and students were trained on the use of the recycling
plant to the satisfaction of all concerned.

A mason’s training program was conducted from 11 to 13 May 2007
at Maharajpura village in Tikamgarh District of Bundelkhand.
Eight masons were trained in the construction of toilets, both
twin pit system and eco-sanitation.

Readers may recall the ‘Methane to Markets’ project being
implemented in Bundelkhand with support from USAID.
Under the aegis of the project, 3 Gaushalas have been
selected for energy generation using cow dung to convert the
Gaushalas from a cost-centre to a profit centre. One of the
first milestones under the project was achieved in May 2007 when
10 quintals of vermicompost generated using the bio-digester
slurry was commercially sold by the Maurani Pur Gaushala,
demonstrating the economic potential of Gaushalas. |

The total number of
TARAkendras has now reached 270.

Under the
TARA Akshar programme in Bihar, a total of 1200 women completed the
entire course with pass percentage of 95% and 92% in two regions.
