NGO AIJ/CDM Facilitation Centre at Development Alternatives
The NGO AIJ/CDM Facilitation Centre (FC) is functioning at Development Alternatives from January, 1997. As a first step the FC organised a major international conference on AIJ in New Delhi in January 1997 to bring all the stakeholders on one platform to facilitate AIJ/CDM activities in India and the Asia - Pacific Region. The Functions of the AIJ/CDM Facilitation Centre at Development Alternatives are as follows : Networking Networking by electronic mail with the various national AIJ/CDM initiatives (investing countries), NGOs and business sectors/industries in the developed countries such as US, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, France, U.K., Canada and also within India as well as in other developing countries in the Asia-Pacific Region such as China, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar and Thailand. Quarterly Newsletter Has a plan to initiate Quarterly Newsletter to disseminate information on AIJ and CDM activities to Asia-Pacific countries.

Information on climate change related activities and projects taken up by the Facilitation Centre will also be simultaneously made available on the Development Alternatives web site ( http://www.ecouncil.ac.cr/devalt ).
Initial time horizon of the Facilitation Centre The above listing of the functional responsibilities of this Facilitation Centre will be expanded as it evolves in the light of its users’ expectations. The Facilitating Centre has initially been established with a time horizon limited to the Kyoto time schedule, i.e., 2010.
Facilitation Centre is supplemented by DAINET The activities of the AIJ/CDM Facilitation Center is supplemented by the Development Alternatives Information Network (DAINET) which is already functioning and is linked to the ENVIS programme of the Ministry of Environment and Forests. DAINET is being used for data acquisition, networking, access to conferences, and to route queries to appropriate information sources. For the success of the Facilitation Centre we need feedback from countries in the Asia Pacific region, particularly from governments as to the types of projects they would need. This will assist us in locating suitable partners and channeling their requirements for the evolution of appropriate projects. q
