  • Funds were sanctioned for 250 SHGs by NABARD Lucknow for Jhansi district (Badagaon and Babina Blocks).

    n    TSG hosted Rio Tinto Community Head and Australian Consultants in DA Delhi office (15 June) and TARAgram for 2 days (16 - 17 June). Field visits were made by the Rio Tinto team to Majra, Chandravan, Bagan villages and to the Gaushala centre

    n    TSG has launched fee-based trainings in TARAgram, Orchha on three themes:

          (a)  A Livelihood Approach for Prevention of Trafficking and Migration (7 - 9 August, 2007)

Environment Systems Branch (ESB)

 

The first consultation workshop for South Asia Environment Outlook and second consultation workshop for Sub-regional Sustainable Development Strategies were organized by Development Alternatives and UNEP in Kathmandu, Nepal on 6 - 8 June, 2007. The documents were reviewed in the workshop and the comments received will now be incorporated.

Drinking water supply was provided in five villages of Tikamgarh district under Water for All and Always Project.

Technology and Action for Rural Advancement (TARA)

   

1. EcoKiln:  TARA EcoKiln launched a workshop on World Bank, CDCF (Community Development Carbon Fund) in Ranchi, Jharkhand on 19 June, 2007 with the support of the Department of Industries, Government of Jharkhand. Honourable Shri Sudhir Mahato, Minister of Industries, Forest and Environment inaugurated the workshop.

Around 400 labourers working in TARA EcoKilns have been insured for Personal Accident Insurance from the Oriental Insurance Company.

2. Machines:  A TARA Mini Paper Recycling Unit workshop was organized at TARA Nirman Kendra (TNK) Campus in Delhi on 12 June, 2007 as a result of the Waste Paper Recycling advertisement published in a newspaper by the Government of NCT to generate awareness of Waste Paper Recycling . TARA has been getting a positive response for setting up the units by various organizations.

3. Paper:  TARA Handmade Paper Products, in association with Mothers Pride School, will be displayed in SM Mall Pritampura for six weeks. This will be inaugurated by H’onable Smt. Najma Heptullah on 30 June, 2007.

 

Technology Systems Branch (TSB)

        

 

Development Alternatives was part of a national consultation on developing standard course curricula for training masons in disaster-resistant construction. Organized by Orissa Development Technocrats Forum (ODTF) and supported by UNDP, the consultation brought out the main contents of a curriculum for a multi-level training of masons from unskilled to apprentice to skilled to becoming specialized in disaster-resistant construction and alternative technologies. Institutional systems conducive for systematic training of masons were also presented and discussed. Subsequently, DA and ODTF will finalize the curriculum and then implement it in their own work areas. In the long term, it is envisaged to institutionalize the curricula for a formal and comprehensive system of skill upgradation in the construction sector.

   

TARAhaat

n   The total number of TARA Kendras has now reached 287.

n   A pilot training programme on stitching and tailoring clothes has been started in the Bundelkhand region.

n  Under the National Institution of Smart Government (NISG) project, there was a new initiative to link potential entrepreneurs with bankers. In the first conference for such an initiative, 23 bankers participated and showed their interest in the concept of the Entrepreneur Development Programme of TARA haat.
