Anti Trafficking Livelihood
study for USAID in the states of UP and Uttaranchal was
completed and the Final Report was submitted.

Training Systems Group (TSG)
successfully completed 5 trainings in the month of June for
PACS Partners on ToT of - PRA tools, Gender and Development,
Financial Management and Accountancy skills, Vermi
Composting and Leadership development |

TSG organised Training on
Moderation for DA Professionals (15 Nos.) between 12- 14 and
16-17 June 2006 (5 days). The Resource Person was Mr. Ram
Bhat from Options and Solutions, Bangalore. |

Geneva Global Team visited
TARAgram to enter into a partnership for developing future
synergies and collaboration through SAG/ISB |

ISB team is visiting Balaghat,
Madhya Pradesh for conducting evaluation under Rajiv Gandhi

Environment Systems Branch (ESB) |

A workshop was organised on
Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in collaboration with
Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) on 5-6 June at
Jaipur, Rajasthan. The workshop was attended by
representatives from industry, State Pollution Control Boards
(SPCB), Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation (RREC),
National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI),
NGOs, research institutes and entrepreneurs. The workshop
mainly comprised of technical sessions on CDM project
development, opportunities, financing, validation process,
case studies and was dedicated to the practical session of
group exercises and discussions. |

CLEAN-India in association with
Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) celebrated World
Environment Day on 5 June 2006, at the Chinmaya Centre. To
spread the message acroos,the occassion was marked with Dr.
Kiran Bedi as the Chief Guest and Dr T Ramaswamy, Secretary,
Department of Science & Technology as the guest of honour.
The day's activities included an Exhibition and cultural
function attended by various public schools, invitees from
Slum schools, government and international agencies.

ESB in partnership with
National Productivity Council organised the IInd (in a
series of six meetings) mulltistakeholder consultation meeting
on 20 and 21 June 2006 to get consensus on the proposed
voluntary performance standard for Lead Battery Manufacturing
Plants. In attendance were representatives of major battery
manufacturers, bulk consumers, government, NGOs, recycling
industry and dealers .The first day was dedicated to
discussions regarding design of battery collection system and
the second day was dedicated to get consensus on a part of the
proposed standard. |

Machines :
TARA Machines has been approached
by Defence Services i.e. BRO, Indian Army etc. for TARA MCR, and
Balram Compressed Earth Block (CEB) Technologies for their
internal use |

Vertical Shaft
Brick Kiln (VSBK):
VSBK has been included in Credit
Linked Capital Subsidy (CLCS) of Ministry of Small Scale
Industries, New Delhi, under Technology upgradation.
Entrepreneurs will be benefited by getting 15% subsidy against
the capital investment. With its network spreading wide and the
popularity has gone up specially in Orissa. |

Paper:
TARA
Handmade Paper Products made by the tribal women have been
gaining popularity in Northern India.Orders have been placed
for New Delhi & 8 other outlets in Northern India (Jaipur,
Shimla, Manali, Lucknow, Agra etc.). Also, the Museums
approached TARA for its acid free paper. Its papers have
already been supplied to IGNCA/NMM. |

Technology Systems Branch (TSB) |
Habitat:
TSB undertook training of 20
artisans, 20 women entrepreneurs and 8 supervisors in building
construction and production of building materials in Bamari village
of Chhattarpur District, Madhya Pradesh. As a part of the training
program, two small buildings have also been constructed. Observing
the impressive levels of skill achieved by the trainees, the
District Commissioner, Shri R.R. Gangarekar sanctioned the
construction of 100 women’s cooperative centers in the district,
using the RCC door and window frames produced by the women
entrepreneurs. The building will be constructed by the artisans
trained under the programme. He also sanctioned a production centre
in Bamari village for women’s Self Help Groups.
Energy :
The Energy Team of Development
Alternatives has successfully demonstrated indigenously developed
high capacity “Charring and Briquetting Technology Package” at
Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh. Dehradun based NGO, Himalayan
Environment Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO) was
selected as a regional partner for Uttaranchal, and Regional
Horticulture Research Station (RHRS - a unit of Dr. Y.S. Parmar
university of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan) was selected as a
regional partner for H.P.
Dr. Anil P. Joshi of HESCO and Dr.
B.K. Karkara of RHRS will promote this technology as a livelihood
option in lower Himalayas with the help of Development Alternatives
and respective forest departments.
Workshop at Leh :
A discussion on renewable energy in the cold desert (Ladakh) was
held at a workshop from 6-8 June, at Leh. It was organised jointly
by Indo-Canada Environment Facility (ICEF) and LAHDC. Discussions
ranged over various issues, from technological development to
costing and policy to scaling up of solutions

With the expansion of TARAhaat network in new states such as
Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Eastern UP, the
number of franchised TARAkendras has now reached to 86.
·
The enterprise development package on poultry is currently under
development. This multimedia package will explore various aspects
related to the farming of poultry.
·
A
workshop has been organized in Bundelkhand to promote TARA Akshar,
the literacy mission, among PACS partners
