India Environment Portal

The India Environment Portal is an initiative by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) and is promoted by the National Knowledge Commission (NKC), Government of India. The mission of the India Environment Portal is to be a clearinghouse for accessible, well categorised, and easy-to-use information related to environmental and developmental issues in India. They operate under the mandate that open, networked, and informed societies are vital for positive change. This resource will help find valuable information and knowledge on a wide range of environmental issues, including climate change, from sources such as research institutions, government bodies, NGOs, universities, the mass media, and other experts.

India Water Portal

The India Water Portal is an initiative by Arghyam, a non-profit trust that works in the area of water to address equity and sustainability issues in the water sector. The web-based sharing platform has been designed for water management practitioners and citizens interested in water issues to share knowledge and information related to sustainable water management. The website is a good resource for accessing research articles and data. Additionally, the Portal has areas where users can submit queries on water issues to be answered by other users and experts.

The Ministry of Environment and Forests is the primary central government agency for India’s environmental and forestry policies and programmes. Watershed Organisation Trust

The Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR) is a NGO focusing on participatory watershed development and climate change adaptation. Their mandate is to ‘reduce poverty through mobilising the self help capacities of individuals and communities to regenerate the eco-spaces or watersheds they live in, harvest rainwater wherever it falls, use it productively, undertake sustainable livelihoods and do whatever else it takes to get them out of poverty’. The WOTR website contains research publications by the organisation relating to climate change adaptation, watershed management, drinking water sanitation, and alternative energy among other issues.

The Third Pole
