The 9th Annual
CLEAN- India Meet was held on the 2nd Dec
at Shri Satya Sai International Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.The
theme of this year’s CLEAN-India meet was Community Action.
Sixteen of the CLEAN-India centres including Delhi presented and
shared their initiatives and successes in community action for
environment conservation. Shrimati Maneka Gandhi (M.P.) was the
chief guest. Representatives from European Commission, Government of
NCT of Delhi were also present on the occasion.
The Government of
Japan, in co operation with the Secretariat of Basel Convention and
National Institute of Environmental
Studies,
Japan organised
the Asia-Pacific Inception Workshop on Environmentally Sound
Management of Electronic and
Electrical
Wastes
in Tokyo from November 21-25, 2005. Her Excellency Yuriko Koike,
Minister of Environment, Government
of Japan, in her
opening remarks, emphasised the need for effective co-soperation
amongst stakeholders to cope with the
growing e-
waste problem
in the Asia-Pacific region. Development Alternatives was invited to
participate in the workshop, as a
representative
of the NGO sector from India. Dr. K Vijayalakshmi, Senior Programme
s Director presented a multistakeholder
partnership
approach, elaborating the role that NGOs can play in response to the
global threat of e-waste, which was highly
appreciated
by the participants |

Poorest Areas Civil Society
(PACS) Programme
The
Organisational Development Self Assessment (ODSA) training programme
was organized at Sahabhaghi Siskhan Kendra,
Lucknow
from
1-5th December
2005 for a few selected ROs from PACS
State. The programme facilitated by Mind Mentor and coordinated
jointly by Catalyst Management Services-Bangalore, Constructive
Catalyst-Maharashtra and Global Ideas- Lucknow for the PACS
programme helped the participating ROs gain practical experience in
Organisational Self Assessment thereby enhancing their knowledge on
operationalizing process of the OD self assessment.

PST
meeting took place in all sixs PACS operated states. Draft state
specific Capacity Building strategy has been developed and submitted
to Management Consultant for approval.

A
draft proposal from Murray Culshaw Consulting (MCC) was received by
MC for consideration to undertake the Governance Workshop in MP&CG.
MCC would be appointed to undertake the same training programme for
CSOs in
Maharashtra and Bihar after
successful and satisfactory completion in MP&CG.

At TARAgram, the Training System Group (TSG) of
Development Alternatives conducted four training programmes for the
CSO partners on Micro-planning (Batch I), Fund Raising (Batch I),
Moderation Hindi (Batch I) and Gender & Development during December
2005. In January 2006, six training programmes have been planned to
be organized at TARAgram viz; Project Management Tools (Batch II),
Organizational Development, PRA (Batch II), Financial Management,
Human Resource Development and Social Audit.

Under the Microsoft Unlimited
Potential Programme, the number of girl students reached 834 .

TARA
Akshar, the literacy programme, has been rolled out in Bundelkhand
region of Central India. About 72 women students are enrolled under
the programme, which is currently functional in six villages .

Technology and Action for Rural
Advancement (TARA) |
This month TARA VSBK has signed ten agreements from Jharkhand, CG,
MP, Orissa and Rajasthan. Also, the entrepreneurs appreciated the
newly introduced Brick Making Machine, used for making green bricks.
Regarding TARA machines, all the technologies are gaining
popularity, especially TARA MCR tiles and TARA Fly Ash technology. A
lot of 17 TARA Compressed Earth Block making machines were sent to
Sundergarh district, Orissa, through the DRDA. TARA is going to
install these machines in 17 different blocks of the district and
has also trained the manpower through a training programme. The
Recycling Unit at Govt. of NCT of Delhi Secretariat, established by
TARA, is gaining attention from different organisations as everyone
is impressed with the quality of TARA Recycled Paper. q |
