  • A village-level awareness campaign and rallies under Nasha Mukti Abhiyan against alcohol and other drugs were undertaken in 10 villages of Niwari Block under the Tejaswani Women empowerment programme.

  • Work has been completed on the check dam under the Integrated Watershed Management Programme in village Chachawali, Tikamgarh district.

 

 

Technology and Action for Rural Advancement (TARA)

 
 

SPEED

  • SPEED has currently established six prototype projects at the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage in three clusters at Project Feasibility Report (PFR) stage in one cluster. Another significant achievement has been engagement with four Community Engagement and Micro-enterprise Development Partners (CEMeDP) for each state.

VE-SuRE

  • The Steering Committee Meeting and Quarterly review for VE-SuRE project has taken place in November 2012.

  • The team has re-commissioned seven plants in three clusters: Vindhyachal (three plants), Korba (two plants) and Rihand (two plants). The work is in various stages of progress in all the clusters.
 
 

Innovation Systems Branch (ISB)

 
 
  • Development Alternatives and Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (MPUNL) jointly organised a ‘Capacity Building workshop on decentralised energy planning’ on 26 November 2012 in Bhopal. The workshop focused on integration of energy planning aspects into the district planning processes.

  • A one-day workshop on fly ash utilisation was organised on 30 November 2012 by the National Thermal Power Cooperation (NTPC), Kahalgaon in association with Development Alternatives. The aim of this workshop was creating awareness among entrepreneurs about various fly ash brick technologies.

  • Development Alternatives (supported by Eawag Aquatic Research), organised a one-day national workshop under the theme ‘Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage (HWTS)’ on 7 November 2012 in Delhi at Development Alternatives World Headquarters. The goal of the workshop was to jointly develop strategies and action steps to promote household water treatment systems and safe storage at national level through policy advocacy and scaling up.

  Rural Communication Wing
  • A one-day awareness workshop on 25 Climate change adaptation options was conducted in TARAgram, Orchha with 25 Climate Change Agent, PRI members and Aanganwadi workers. More than 50 people participated in this workshop.

  • A three-day training programme on Capacity Building of Citizen Journalists on Climate Change was conducted with local community radios such as LalitLokwani, Radio Dharkan and Radio Bundelkhand.

  • TARAgram Mela 2012 was organised on 23 November 2012 to showcase women-driven change in Bundelkhand. The Mela was successful, with the presence of Government Officials, Community members, School children and development practitioners.

TARAgram Yatra

  • The much awaited TARAgram Yatra took place in DAWHQ and TARAgram Orchha from 22 to 25 November 2012. Dr Ashok Khosla provided an overview on ‘Making Sustainable development Whole’. The Developmental Mela and the field visit was the special attraction for the Yatris.

Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage (HWTS)

  • A one-day national workshop under the theme ‘Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage (HWTS)’ was conducted on 7 November 2012, and saw the participation of more than 40 people from different disciplines. During the workshop, a draft policy paper prepared by Development Alternatives was presented and discussed.

  • The Swiss Radio and Television journalist, Karin Wenger visited the HWTS project locations of Delhi slums. During the field visit she interviewed the end users and community anchors in the slum. These interviews will be telecast in the Switzerland radio channels with the aim of raising funds on water issues for South Asia.
