verywhere
around us people are running towards that pot of gold which will give
them materialistic happiness. However in this quest for wealth, they are
destroying themselves as well as mother earth. Is this the world that we
envisage for ourselves and the coming generations?
Where do the youth fit in all this? Youth today are
the most under represented community in the world. The irony is that
they have the potential to be the most powerful tornado of change, if
their idealism and creativity is channelised constructively.
At YUVA Unstoppable, our vision is to inspire society
at large to be kind and compassionate. We aim to bring this change
through our youth who form a large segment of our population.
By volunteering at YUVA, young people visit municipal
schools and teach the children the importance of inculcating good values
such as kindness, compassion, honesty etc. They have to give a minimum
of two hours of their time every week. It’s a mutual exchange, the
children and the youth volunteers both learn something valuable.
YUVA Unstoppable has mobilised 1,00,000 volunteers
till date and impacted lives of more than 2,40,000 children. Many
corporates such as Adani, HDFC, Kotak, Coca Cola etc support our cause
and have joined hands with us to help make this world a better place.
We at YUVA have always believed that the youth are
not ‘useless’ but that they are ‘used less’. I want to share the example
of Raghu, an extremely courageous young man that I had the opportunity
of meeting some time back. He defines living life to the fullest despite
all personal odds. When I first met him, Raghu used to work at the Iskon
temple taking care of people’s footwear while they visited the temple.
The cabin where he worked had a low ceiling and would have made anyone
miserable, but Raghu very patiently did his job daily. He always had a
smile on his face and kind words to say to everybody. When I asked him,
how he could smile working in such difficult conditions, he replied that
he had no legs, so this job was perfect for him. He told me that he
always thanked God for his blessings and the fact that he could earn
money through honest, hard work. I was amazed to find out that Raghu
spent half of his meagre earnings on feeding old widows who had been
abandoned by their families. He not only cooked for them, but also fed
them with his own hands.
We at YUVA Unstoppable decided to get him a better
paying job at Gram shree. With this increase in his monthly income,
Raghu now feeds more old widows. This young individual has been such an
inspiration to all of us!
We wait all our lives to do something good, wait for
that unreachable tomorrow to start living compassionately. Raghu lives a
fulfilling life every single day of his life.
We at YUVA Unstoppable believe that channelising the
idealism of our youth into creative and constructive activities will
help benefit society at large.
