Institutions Systems Branch (ISB)
 

  • n    TSG held a successful workshop called ‘Alive’ - Livelihood Approach: Prevention of Trafficking and HIV, Aid to Safe Migration. This took place on March 13, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The workshop was done in partnership with UNDP TAHA.

    n TSG successfully conducted a workshop - "Judicious Utilisation of Community Fund" for UNDP TAHA partners of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar. This was held in TARAgram on March 15-16, 2007.

    n TSG effectively participated in a Regional Review Workshop organised by UNDP India in Bhubaneswar on March 28.

    n Social Action Group effectively facilitated the process of formation of Village Development Committee under the Arghyam project.

    n Social Action Group effectively conducted the visit of NRI - Mr. Ram Aggarwal to Chandrabhan village, Madhya Pradesh.

    n Strengthening Livelihoods of Trafficking Prone Communities - a  project in Tanakpur, Uttaranchal initiated by USAID is taken forward by FWWB Friends of Women’s World Banking, Gujarat

Environment Systems Branch (ESB)

 

The 3rd regional workshop on State of Environment (SoE) reporting for Eastern states was organized by Development Alternatives in collaboration with the Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) on March 1, 2007 at Patna. The aim was to identify key challenges to the State of Environment Reporting process; identify drivers that can trigger and sustain the process; analyze usefulness of the process and products and prepare a road map for future of SoE reporting project. The workshop was attended by the State Host Institutions (SHIs) of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and two of the four National Host Institutions (NHIs); DA and TERI.

CLEAN-India organised a press interaction on March 20, 2007 to mark World Water Day. There was a display of Development Alternatives innovations and pioneering work in the field of safe drinking water. The CLEAN-India students demonstrated water quality monitoring and shared their experiences with the press Corps.

Technology and Action for Rural Advancement (TARA)
   

VSBK: Plant successfully launched in Jharkhand, over 100 Brick Manufacturers attended the workshop, and the response has been very good. The VSBK has been approved for CLCS (Credit Limit Capital Subsidy) scheme in MP, CG, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Orissa; the 1st workshop has conducted successfully in Indore. 

PAPER: Participated in Aadishilp Fair at Dehradun. New range of handmade paper products launched and displayed at the fair. Rate contract finalized with tribal craftsmen for supplying carry bags for all tribal shops in India. Demand has increased for TARA black and white paper. 

First lot of TARA Looms dispatched to Jharkhand & Bihar Governments through Dept. of Industry with the objective of increasing productivity and income generation and to rejuvenate the stagnant handloom sector and traditional weaving techniques.

 

Technology Systems Branch (TSB)

        

 

TSB reports the successful completion of the two Masons Training programmes in Niwari and Prithvipur blocks under District Panchayat, Tikamgarh.

Salient features of the project are: Capacity Building of 15+21 masons in Niwari and Prithvipur blocks; Construction of two Indira Awas Yojana houses and toilets using innovative construction technologies developed by Development Alternatives and other agencies in Pajanpura (Niwari block) and Tapariyan (Prithvipur block) villages on which the trainings were carried out.

A small function was held at TARAgram, Orchha to hand-over the certificates to the masons on March 20, 2007. 32 masons, IAY beneficiaries, Mr. A.S. Gangwar CEO-DRDA, Tikamgarh and CEOs of Niwari and Prithvipur Block Panchayats along with other government personnels attended. Along with mason certificates, two house owner certificates were also distributed to the IAY beneficiaries.

  • TARAhaat

    1. The total number TARAkendras has now reached 230.

    2. The TARA Akshar programme has now been rolled out in the states of Bihar and Jharkhand with 89 instructors being trained.

    3. A marketing manual on Grassroots Marketing has been prepared.
