Achieving Sustainable and Healthy Water Through Efficient Systems - Jhansi City Workshop
This report discusses the workshops conducted by the Development Alternatives in association with the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) and supported by Heinrich Böll Stiftung for the city of Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. The workshop aimed at bringing together key stakeholders from both public and private sector, subject matter experts and new age technology promoters in urban water and wastewater management space. It focused on introducing the approach of Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM), sharing the identified issues and challenges faced by the city, apprising the city of decentralised low footprint packaged solutions, best practices and understanding each other’s aspirations and exploring the possibilities of supporting each other.

Fostering Resource Circularity and Efficiency in the Management of Urban Water System in India
Wasteful water management and disintegrated working arrangement of urban water utilities along with growing water demand have led to serious water scarcity in many Indian cities. This issue brief is based on the studies on water flow assessments and water-energy nexus in tier II Indian cities. The brief reflects on the potential of resource circularity in urban water systems while enhancing efficiency, equity, and resilience of urban water systems by adopting Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) and accommodating decentralised and nature-based solutions in municipal systems. The brief also discusses solutions to the multitude of issues and challenges identified in urban water and wastewater systems to meet the increasing water demand efficiently and sustainably by use of data points of the city of Dehradun.

The 7th sessions of the webinar series 'Water Resource Management for Sustainable Development and the Role of Citizens' was conducted in August 2021.
The webinar focused on the collective ownership and responsibility to find the solutions for preserving our heritage and reviving our natural resources rivers and lakes in Bulandshahr. The session deliberated on the pressing issues of preserving nature such as capacity building requirements of stakeholders and actors of the city and understanding of our own natural systems, new ideas to engage people with the legacy of Bulandshahr. The webinar also emphasised the scope for systems thinking and modelling to understand the gaps in the natural system of Bulandshahr and strengthening the ongoing efforts and building a narrative.
