Introduction

 

Participatory Livelihood Assessment Technique (PLAT) is an effective method for ensuring participation of different levels of stakeholders in any project related to livelihood promotion. It has been evolved by Development Alternatives over time and yields positive results if implemented in a methodical and strategic manner with the underlying element of flexibility. It aims at fathoming the critical gaps in livelihood promotion and weighs them against feasibilities to reach a logical conclusion whereby after analysis, a sound action plan or strategy for development can be drawn.

 

Course Objective:

 

  • To orient one with an effective techniques and tools of livelihood assessment entailing participation of a variety of stakeholders

  • How to use of Tools for information collection

  • Do’s and Dont’s
  • How to collate information?

  • How to formulate action/strategic planning with PLAT?

 

Course Duration: Three Days

 

The training will be for a period of 3 days which will be essentially consisting of :

  1. class room sessions
  2. a guided tour to the Livelihood models within TARAgram campus
  3. an evening out to visit the Orchha temples and fort.

 

Course Eligibility:

Development Professionals engaged in livelihood promotion who would like to have a better analytical and systematic approach for conducting livelihood needs assessment in a development programme.

 

Course Fee

 

INR 8000 per participant for Indian Participants

INR 12000 for Non-Indian Participants

Venue

 

The training will be held in TARAgram, Appropriate Technology Centre, Orchha, Madhya Pradesh. TARAgram is a campus set in the rural environment of Orchha. It is a centre which showcases the Livelihood models developed by DA in the field of appropriate technology, and environment.

 

Participants to the training will be provided a guided tour of the campus which will enrich the learnings from the class room sessions.

 

Tips of getting to TARAgram

 

Participants coming by train should take a ticket till Jhansi (UP) Railway station. From there, TARAgram is 9 kms away. There will be a pick up facility based on the information provided on the arrival time.

 

 

Other Useful Tips

 

1. The Training fee covers the following:

  • Leisure trip to the famous Orchha Temples and Fort

 

2. The participants can arrive one day before the training date and leave on the last day of the training by a train which leaves after 7 pm.

 

3. The participants will be expected to book and reserve their tickets. The training fee does not include the travel expenses.

Resource Persons

 

Kim Maria MisaoKim has done her Post Graduate Management studies in NGO Management from Entrepreneurship Institute of India, Ahmedabad. She has an experience of working for 7 years in the development sector. She brings to this course, an experience of managing national level projects which focussed on Building Livelihood Options for Trafficking Prone Communities in 3 states of India. What Kim would be sharing through this course is the status of Trafficking and Migration in several parts of India and how this needs to be tackled at the source point through several tools and methods that were used by the project team.

 

Sudeshna Chatterjee- Sudeshna has done her Masters in Economics from Jawaharlal University Delhi and has been working in the development sector for the past 10 years. She brings with her an experience of working on the issue of Livelihood and Trafficking in the state of Madhya Pradesh where she has accumulated direct grass root experience of working with the community and NGO partners. She has been instrumental in setting up livelihood models in the state of MP which has been now marked for multiplication and replication.

 

Santosh Pathak

Santosh has completed his post graduate studies in Political Science. He has 10 years of experience ranging from hard core field level implementation to management of projects - project Planning, implementation monitoring and evaluation with different organizations. He has conducted trainings for CBOs on Livelihood related themes which range from Micro enterprise development to Community Fund mobilisation to Rural Livelihood Enhancement Programme.
